Our Story
From a beautiful adoption story, an idea was born.
August 1st of 2018 we got the call we had been waiting 7 years for, we had finally be matched to adopt a beautiful little girl from India. 9 months later we travelled to India to pick her up, and it truly was the trip of a lifetime! It was the most amazing experience, meeting our precious daughter we had waited so long for! She has truly been a joy and blessing, and we feel so honoured to have been given the gift of calling her ours.
While we were in India, we saw some of the most beautiful and amazing places, but we also saw some of the poorest areas and living conditions. We saw many people and children living in poverty, but one little girl stood out. This little girl was no more than 5 years old and was roaming the street by herself. She was filthy, her dress was in rags, no shoes on her feet and she was alone. This was heart breaking to see, as no child should be on the streets homeless, without a loving home, clothes on their back, shoes on their feet, a bed to sleep in, food and clean water in their tummies and an education. We left India wishing we could do more, and so the idea of a fair trade company was born.
There are an estimated 20 million orphans in India. Our desire is to see this change. The birth country of our daughter holds a special place in our hearts and a yearning for these children to live a better life. Our goal with Lotus + Living is to build and support homes for abandoned children in India, so they can have access to a safe and comfortable place to live, to be loved, given healthy meals, clean water and an education.
